In the life of a child with developmental disabilities early developmental support is very important already in the first months of the child's life. The most important thing is to inform parents and other family members who are in the daily life of the child, in order to influence the child's development in the most efficient way. A child with developmental disabilities encounters new challenges when starting kindergarten, and they are also met by educators who should be expert in working with such a child. At an early age, children with disabilities use more nonverbal cues to express their wishes and it is important to encourage such a form of communication. For this very reason, it is important to develop a quality relationship between families, professional associates and educators. The final paper includes a brief description of the most useful types of nonverbal communication, how they are used and what age are they applicable for. Furthermore, it goes over the characteristics of children with developmental disabilities, how to notice that the child has certain difficulties and how to act and how to introduce sign language into the everyday life of the child.
