Alternative pedagogy began in the late 19th and early 20th centuri. Even today, alternative pedagogy is widespread throughout the world. There are several types of alternative pedagogy in the Republic of Croatia. Waldorf pedagogy, Montessori pedagogy, agazzi and reggio pedagogy are represented, wich is also the topic of this papse. However, state educational institutions are still more represented. Alternative educational institutions offer a lot of opportunities for all children. In state educational institutions, the emphasis is on the transfer of knowledge to children, while alternative directions largely bypass this and emphasize the child as the initiator of all activities. Reggio pedagogy is full of wealth and luxury. In reggio pedagogy, the child is the center of all events. It all starts with the child. The child is the constructor of his knowledge. The educator and the child are partners in the educational process. The educator observes and monitors the child. He listens to the child, his wishes and needs. Great importance is ggiven to space and it is called the "third educator". The space is stimulating, equipped with a variety of materials. It is connected into one whole. In the living room there are activity centers. The activity centers serve to encourage children to work independently, to isolate children and to choose what they want to do. In reggio pedagogy, great importance is given to parents and the whole community. Educators and parents are partners in the educational process. They all have the same goal, and that is the welfare of the child. The child is rich in knowledge and potential. Each child is made of the number one hundred. Malaguzzi is guided by the fact that children have countless knowledge, possibilities and potentials, it is just a question of whether adults allow children to develop these potentials or "choke" them. The mains goal of this paper is to convey the concept of each of the alternative pedagogies, and especially reggio pedagogy, which is the topic of this paper, and its characteristics.
