Nettle (Urtica dioica L.) belongs to the family Urticaceae and the genus Urtica. The genus Urtica includes 50 subspecies and species. In agriculture, nettle is still classified as a weed, although it has been used for a long time in history, only recently has it begun to be explored as a future crop. Parts of nettle such as roots and leaves are used due to their extremely rich chemical composition. They can be used in dried or fresh form. The root is rich in lecithin, polysaccharides, phenolic compounds and sterols. The leaves contain potassium, calcium, iron, vitamin C, flavonoids and phenols. Nettle as a medicinal plant was recognized in the Middle Ages. Nettle grows on various soils. It prefers moist soil in open, partially shaded locations. It is optimal and correct for nettles to get the same amount of water throughout the vegetation. Nettle preparations can be used in various branches of agriculture. In animal husbandry it is used as food for cattle, in vegetable and fruit growing fertilizers and insecticides based on nettle are made.
