Although the history of Nuštar could be studied from the earliest times, systematic archaeological research has never been conducted. Nuštar is an old village whose history dates back to the 12th century. Like the rest of Croatia, it was ruled by different nations which has left a mark on its educational system. The school in Nuštar was established in 1767., during the reign of Queen Maria Theresa. It was only after Mažuranić’s education reform that Croatian education was modernized - girl schools have been established, the relationship between church and state is regulated and four-grade elementary schools were established. Until the end of the Second World war schools were working in difficult material and personnel conditions. After the Second World War, compulsory eight-year schooling was introduced, which has continued to this day. All political and social changes in Croatia also affected the development of the school in Nuštar, which was especially destroyed in the Homeland War. After the Homeland War, the school took on its current appearance and interior design.
