The aim of this research was to examine whether marital locus of control (the way we think about the reasons for satisfaction in marriage) and anxiety are related to the assessment of parental competence (how effective we perceive ourselves as a parent). The research methodology involved a questionnaire consisting of four parts: sociodemographic questionnaire; the second Marital Locus of Control Scale, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale and Parenting Sense of Competence Scale. Parents filled out the questionnaire on the Google forms platform. The study involved 218 subjects, 208 of whom were women (95.4%) and 10 men (4.6%). The results of the research showed that there are no statistically significant differences in the assessment of parental competence with regard to education, work status and age at the time of the birth of the first child. A positive correlation between parental competence and external marital locus of control was established, which shows that those participants who tend to see external factors as responsible for their relationship with their partner have the feeling that they are more competent in their parental role. A negative correlation of parental competence with anxiety and internal locus of control was found, which shows that more anxious people and those who consider themselves responsible for the relationship with their partner describe themselves as less competent in the parental role. Although significant, all of these correlations are low, indicating that perceived parental competence is related to a number of other factors.
